The Gum In Our Eyes

(audio available for paid subscribers)

Long enough have you dream'd contemptible dreams, Now I wash the gum from your eyes, You must habit yourself to the dazzle of the light and of every moment of your life.

Perception and perspective are critical factors in the process of awakening. Opening your eyes and increasing your elevation are conjoined metaphors; they’re not quite the same, but the more you do either, the more you do the other. What you see depends on how open your eyes are and where you stand. That’s really all we’re talking about here; seeing well and seeing more. At the too-shallow end of the pool is the common herd, where all you see is dust and ass, and at the too-deep end is where you see all that is and nothing that’s not. Between those two freakish extremes is the just-right part; your unique point of neutral buoyancy and place of authentic belonging. Your sweet spot.
