10. Thought & Thinking
We are not taught how to think, we’re taught not to think. Thought is corrosive to the adhesive that binds the herd together. Thought has been effectively abolished by the Ministry of Education because it poses an existential threat to the herd, and therefore, to the dreamstate. Not knowing the power of thought and having never been presented with thinking as an option, we turn to rote memorization, which is the antithesis of thought. That’s all well and good as long as your real intent is to stay where you are. (Don’t scoff; for most, it is.) We are content to stay in the sewer-dungeon forever, and thinking threatens our ability to do that.
