I do not offer the old smooth prizes,
but offer rough new prizes. These are
the days that must happen to you.Walt Whitman
It’s only a path when you’re traveling it, otherwise, it’s just another place to kill time. If you’re not embarrassed by how young, dumb, naive, misinformed or just plain stupid you were at this time yesterday — and I mean yesterday, not yesterdecade or yestercarnation — then you’re not making progress, you’re in stagnation mode. All paths lead upward, so if you’re not ascending, you’ve plateaued. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with that — most people never undergo real change from cradle to grave — it’s only wrong in the context of making a journey, being on a path. If you think you’re in motion when you’re standing still, you’re kidding yourself and undermining your own ambitions.
