You can build a better mousetrap or liberate all conscious beings or end world hunger or cure cancer, and maybe the world will throw you a parade for being such a jolly good fellow, but if you don’t know who and what and where you are, what’s the point of anything else? For all you know, you might be a character in a video game or a prisoner on a holodeck or a brain in a vat or a movie-goer chained to a seat.
