When you do something, you should burn
yourself up completely, like a good bonfire,
leaving no trace of yourself.Shunryu Suzuki
I think we can all agree that any search in which the finding of the sought results in the loss of the seeker is pretty dumb, and that describes enlightenment, but why seek it at all? We’re here – wherever here is – and we’ll be kicked out soon enough anyway, so what’s the rush to awaken from the dream? Is your life so unsatisfying and unbearable that you’re eager to flee it? Is your suffering so great? Or do you just have a regular amount of suffering, which, if you’re reading this, probably isn’t that much? I know that not everyone gets a Jet-Ski and weekly mani-pedis, but I would guess that most people aren’t really suffering that much, Buddhists especially.
