What I Don’t Understand

I am the wisest man alive, for I know one
thing, and that is that I know nothing.

I don’t identify with my character and I don’t identify as human, so that’s a lot of stuff I don’t know anything about right there. I don’t identify as a living being or as occupying a particular point in space and time. I don’t conceive of myself as a member of any group or tribe or nation or race. I don’t have kids. I’m not a foodie or a sensualist. I don’t attend ceremonies or events. I don’t play golf or plant tulips or overthrow governments or have conversations, so all that normal human stuff is stuff I know nothing about. I have some residual stage-one memories, but I view them more as mental clutter than knowledge or understanding. I’m probably about as close to not being here at all as it’s possible to be while still, technically, here. I’m barely human, and even that might be overstating it, so when it comes to not knowing much about anything, I’m your guy.
