Looking back over the more interesting part of my life, I don’t recall ever having a choice or making a decision. I didn’t make any decisions in the less interesting part either, but I certainly believed I did. Choice assumes free will, and we knowably don’t have free will because there’s knowably no true self to possess it, so that kinda puts a kibosh on the whole choosing and deciding thing. Still, as bogus beliefs go, freedom and selfhood are pretty good.
Anyone asserting that we possess free will is speaking entirely from belief, vanity, and the fear that we don’t. No matter how firmly we state it or how strongly we believe it, no belief is true. We can always say what’s not, but except I Am or Awareness Is, we can never say what is.
