The hero’s journey always begins with the call.
One way or another, a guide must come to say,
“Look, you’re in Sleepy Land. Wake. Come on a trip.
There is a whole aspect of your consciousness,
your being, that’s not been touched."

Is Joseph Campbell right? Is there a whole aspect of your consciousness, your being, that’s not been touched? Virgin territory of self? An undiscovered country of you? If so, it seems like a pretty big deal. It means the life you’re living is just a pale shadow of your right and natural life. Even the mere possibility should make us sit up and take notice, but sitting up and taking notice is exactly what we manage not to do, as if by design. We can sleep through pretty much anything; that powerful sleep impulse is what the puny waking impulse is up against.
