Pain & Boredom

(audio available for paid subscribers)

All things are wearisome,
more than one can describe;
the eye is not satisfied with seeing,
nor the ear content with hearing.

Whether it’s a toothache or heartbreak or the loss of a loved one, pain hurts. Maybe time heals all wounds or maybe only death does, but the main thing we can get from pain is out of it. I’m not super-susceptible to emotional pain, but in my experience, the physical kind hurts too. I burned the roof of my mouth on some hot pizza cheese in 1994 and I’m still scarred by it. Emotionally, anyway. Now I always remember to blow first.
