On Wisdom

(audio version available for paid subscribers)

The older I grow the more I distrust the
familiar doctrine that age brings wisdom.

I’m not gonna bullshit you, not as a rule but just for the moment. I have no idea what wisdom is. Whatever it is, I must have a shit-ton of it because I’m enlightened so I’m automatically wise, but just because I am rich in wisdom doesn’t mean I know what it is. I’m well-endowed with lymph too, but what the hell is that? Maybe wisdom is just what’s left when youthful stupidity and silliness are gone, but that shouldn’t merit much respect. The dreamstate is the right place for stupidity and silliness; when they’re gone only putrefaction and petrification remain. Old people are supposed to be wise, but that’s a crock of shit. As near as I can tell, most eighty-year-olds are twelve-year-olds with sixty-eight years time-in-grade. What would you like to know from someone who ceased to grow and develop prior to puberty? What can they teach you about a game they never played?
