I wrote a thing a while ago about The Graduate, specifically the last few seconds when it is revealed to be a very different movie than we thought we were watching. Ben and Elaine make their big breakout and end up in the back of a city bus. Elaine is all smiley and happy stemming from the reaction she gets from an astonished busload of people who’ve turned to gawk, but then her smile disappears as she starts to contemplate what she really did and what it really means.
