In my own awakening days, I found any off-task distraction unbearably irrelevant. I sought to minimize and simplify my energetic environment and bring my heart and mind into the sharpest possible focus by eliminating all non-essentials. Looking back, I don’t believe hearing a 10-second radio spot for an exciting new anti-fungal cream would have made my head explode, but at the time, I certainly thought it would. I couldn’t believe anyone had a single second to spare for anything other than figuring out their situation. I remember seeing a trailer for the film Dangerous Liaisons during this period, and I was knocked ass over teakettle by the reminder that people were so utterly impervious to the totally obvious, to wit, that no one has any fuckin’ idea who or what or where they are – or why.
